"Man United 'plot SURPRISE swoop for Jack Grealish' – while 'three rival clubs' also fancy their chances with Man City’s sidelined superstar!"
Nolan James Jan 21Jack Grealish has reportedly caught the attention of Manchester United amid growing uncertainty over his future at Manchester City.
The 29-year-old joined City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a then-record British fee of £100 million but has recently struggled for form and playing time. This season, Grealish has started just six Premier League matches, scoring only once in all competitions across 21 appearances.
Earlier this month, City manager Pep Guardiola publicly criticized Grealish’s performances, lamenting the loss of the player who was instrumental in the club’s historic Treble-winning campaign last year. Guardiola noted that rising star Savinho has outperformed Grealish recently, pushing the England winger further down the pecking order.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s under-pressure manager Ruben Amorim is desperate for reinforcements after a rocky start to his tenure, with seven losses and just five wins in 15 games since taking charge in November. If United were to successfully sign Grealish, it would mark the first direct transfer between the bitter rivals since Carlos Tevez moved to City in 2009.
United face stiff competition, with Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Newcastle also interested, alongside European clubs Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan. However, reports suggest any potential move is more likely to happen in the summer rather than in the January window.
Grealish remains a divisive figure. While he was a fan favorite during his time at Villa, where he made 213 appearances over eight seasons, his recent visit to Villa Park with City saw him greeted with boos after a 2-1 loss.
Despite the criticism, Grealish broke a lengthy goal drought earlier this month, scoring in City’s 8-0 FA Cup demolition of League Two’s Salford City. The goal ended a 392-day wait and was celebrated enthusiastically by his teammates. He also contributed two assists in the match, including setting up James McAtee’s hat-trick.
Nevertheless, Grealish has struggled to reclaim a consistent starting spot, appearing as a substitute in City’s recent 6-0 win over Ipswich. Over his time at the Etihad, Grealish has recorded 15 goals and 22 assists in all competitions while earning 39 England caps and scoring four times for the national team.
As speculation about his future intensifies, the question remains: will Jack Grealish find his spark again, and if so, will it be in the red of Manchester United or elsewhere?
