Cole Palmer has committed to Chelsea with a two-year extension, securing his place at the club until June 2033, making it the longest contract in football.
At 22, Palmer was Chelsea's standout player last season, netting 25 goals in 45 appearances. His stellar form continued on the international stage, where he made a significant impact for England during Euro 2024. Notably, Palmer assisted Ollie Watkins in scoring a last-minute goal in the semi-final against the Netherlands. Although he scored in the final against Spain, England narrowly lost 2-1 after a late goal by Mikel Oyarzabal. Despite the heartbreak, Palmer acknowledged Spain's deserving victory, expressing his disappointment and respect for the opponents.
Palmer reflected on his journey at Euro 2024 on Instagram, sharing his pride in representing England and gratitude for the support received throughout the tournament.
Nicknamed "Cold," Palmer was a bright spot in an otherwise challenging season for Chelsea, finishing the Premier League campaign with 22 goals and 11 assists, including nine penalty goals. Despite keeping his personal life private, Palmer has often spoken about the strong bond he shares with his family, especially his father, Jermaine, who played a crucial role in his development as a footballer.
In a 2022 interview, Palmer recounted his earliest memories of playing football with his dad, who is from St Kitts and Nevis. Despite disliking the cold, Jermaine would spend hours training with his son, instilling in him a love for the game. Palmer fondly remembered accompanying his father to Sunday League matches, soaking in the atmosphere from the sidelines. Jermaine, who now fixes dental equipment, once had aspirations of a football career himself, and Palmer is determined to repay his father for the sacrifices he made.
