Everton's Revival Under David Moyes

David Moyes’ return to Goodison Park has sparked a resurgence, with Everton securing back-to-back victories against Tottenham Hotspur (3-2) and Brighton & Hove Albion (0-1). Since taking charge again, the Scotsman has overseen two wins and one defeat, significantly improving the Toffees' league standing. Currently sitting 16th in the Premier League, Everton holds a seven-point cushion over Leicester City with a game in hand against Liverpool. A win would lift them to 15th, overtaking Tottenham in the process.

Leicester City’s Fight for Survival

Leicester City’s new manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, enjoyed an initial boost with a 3-1 victory over West Ham United, but that momentum quickly faded as the Foxes endured seven straight league defeats. However, a recent 2-1 away win against Tottenham Hotspur has eased the pressure on the former Manchester United interim boss, lifting Leicester out of the relegation zone. The Foxes will remain 17th with a win but could drop back into the bottom three if Ipswich Town beats Southampton.

Recent History Favors Leicester

Despite their lower league position, Leicester City has had the upper hand in recent meetings. The Foxes are unbeaten in their last three encounters with Everton, with the last two league meetings ending in draws (1-1, 2-2). Their most recent victory came in 2022 when Youri Tielemans and Harvey Barnes secured a 2-0 win at Goodison Park. Everton has struggled to keep Leicester at bay, failing to record a clean sheet in their last six meetings. Historically, this fixture has not been high-scoring, with five of the last seven matchups producing under 2.5 goals.

Everton’s Home Form Needs Improvement

Moyes has restored belief at Everton, but strengthening their home record remains a priority. The Toffees have won just three of their 11 league games at Goodison Park this season. However, they have shown recent signs of progress, winning two of their last five home matches, including victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers (4-0). They have also suffered defeats to Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest while playing out a goalless draw with Chelsea.

Leicester’s Defensive Woes

Leicester’s victory over Tottenham ended a miserable run of seven consecutive league defeats, but their defensive issues remain a glaring concern. The Foxes have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 18 matches across all competitions, conceding first in five of their last six games.

Their away form has also been poor, with the Tottenham win marking their first road victory in six attempts. Prior to that, Leicester had suffered heavy defeats to Aston Villa (2-1), Liverpool (3-1), Newcastle United (4-0), Brentford (4-1), and Manchester United (3-0). Statistically, they possess the second-worst away record in the league, with only Southampton faring worse.

Prediction: Everton to Continue Their Momentum

Everton’s recent resurgence under David Moyes suggests they are well-positioned to secure a third consecutive victory. The Toffees have been defensively solid, with eight of their last nine games featuring fewer than 2.5 goals.

Leicester, on the other hand, remains fragile at the back despite their recent win over an inconsistent Tottenham side. With the Foxes’ ongoing defensive struggles and Everton’s growing confidence, the Toffees look set to claim another victory—potentially with a clean sheet.

Everton 1-0 Leicester City
